Craighead Shand House

a modern boarding facility

The new accommodation wing for Shand House Boarding at Craighead Diocesan School replaced buildings that were earthquake prone.

The brief was for a modern boarding facility to house the sleeping, bathroom and recreational areas for the senior boarding years.

The ground floor houses single rooms with shared ensuites for the year 13 boarders with the second and third floor accommodating the years 11 and 12 boarders in twin share bedrooms with common recreation and bathroom facilities.

Critical to the design was to be complimentary to the adjacent original Shand House boarding school built in 1880.

To achieve this a twin gabled roof structure allowed the scale, pitch and height of the new roof to match with the heritage building.
